Bio:Whistler was an extrovert who often allowed fact to become merged with fiction. His litigious nature made him a legend in his own lifetime. Whistler was a perfectionist with a flamboyant character, who earned his place in the history of British art. In 1896, whist living in Lindsey Row, Chelsea, London, he become President of the Society of British Artists.
Whistler referred to himself as "the butterfly" and used a butterfly motif as his signature. Whilst not a prolific painter, his collection nevertheless contains a number of masterpieces.
